About Birchsorb
About Us
BirchSorb is an innovative new product created by Lincolnshire-based company, Birch Chemicals.
Part of the Singleton Birch group, Birch Chemicals came into being in 2000 with the acquisition of the company Innovo (originally formed in 2009). For over two decades we have developed and supplied industry-leading chemical formulations for the rubber, plastics, powder coating and shipping industries.
The parent company Singleton Birch was established in 1815 by minerals merchant William Singleton Birch. Since the 1850s, it has quarried Lincolnshire chalk to supply many industries and grown to become a respected global supplier of lime products and services.
William’s Grandson Lionel became a Director in the early 20th century, and subsequently used income from Singleton Birch to found the Aston Martin car company. Their DB5 was, of course, iconic as the James Bond car in the film series.
In the late 1950s, the majority of shares in the company were left in trust for the benefit of the RSPCA, the NSPCC and Barnardos. To this day, these important organisations still receive a large amount of financial support from Singleton Birch, accounting for around 50% of the group’s profits.
The newest innovation, BirchSorb, is the latest step on our remarkable journey.
What does BirchSorb do?
In simple terms, BirchSorb is an absorber designed specifically to ‘lock in’ the moisture it removes from the air. No leakage, no re-evaporation – so no re-release of humidity. It actively removes and locks in moisture across a range of temperatures – and at between - 5º to 60º it is the widest on the market.
It can handle at least eight times its own weight, lasts for a minimum of eight weeks, and can be used all year round. Ultimately, it’s approximately ten times as effective as any silica gel alternatives, and more effective than desiccated clay or calcium chloride products. You need less of it to do more.
Who is BirchSorb for?
BirchSorb is as effective in your home or leisure vehicle as it is in the shipping and packaging industries. Whether you need to keep your caravan crisp and dry, make sure your living room is as humidity-free as possible, or ensure the cargo you’re shipping remains untroubled by container rain, BirchSorb is the product for you.
Scenarios BirchSorb could be used in include: motorhomes, boats, living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, utility rooms, hallways, summerhouses, garages, storage sheds, offices, shops, clubhouses, sports changing rooms, classrooms, school offices, school halls, churches, community centres, cafes, restaurants, bars, libraries, kiosks and so on...
BirchSorb can also be used in many industrial scenarios. You can read more about the product’s suitability for the shipping industry here and for the packaging industry here.
Safety first
BirchSorb is safe to handle and can be disposed of within your normal waste at home or whilst on a holiday pitch.
An ingredient that’s safe on its own might not mix well with others. Think: vinegar + baking soda = volcanos from childhood science experiments. We rigorously test each formulation to determine if it’s safe to use, to ensure our products are meeting our product standards.
